Bio
No composer has garnered such phenomenal worldwide critical acclaim at the earliest stages of his career since John Williams. The Hollywood Reporter, Washington Post, Universal Music and Music from the Movies are just some of the entities that have praised the quality and versatility of Guy’s scores.
After majoring at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Antwerp (Belgium) he was awarded a graduate assistantship by The American University of Washington D.C. where he followed the M.A. Program. During the 1980s, Guy pursued a career as a classical guitarist, eventually developing a reputation as "undoubtedly one of the world’s best classical guitarists."
During the mid-1990s Guy began composing film music, receiving commissions for several American productions. His music for the short film Sea Fever was followed by scores for the widely acclaimed international co-productions Into the Rising Sun and Setting Sail as well as the award-winning Sea Power – Beyond the Horizon. Each soundtrack received universal praise not only in the international press, but from commissioning producers and broadcasters as well (see Reviews). In 2009 Guy executed his first commission for Warner Bros, writing the main part of the score for Lauras Stern 2. He succeeded Hans Zimmer, who wrote the main part for the first movie. Many commissions followed soon, as well for symphonic orchestra as for symphonic wind band.

“His talent as a soloist rates very high”. Angel Romero (01/10/1987)
Guy Cuyvers studied classical guitar with Victor Van Puyenbroeck at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp and subsequently took private lessons with Angel Romero. Awards and recognition soon followed. He was laureate in a masterclass given by José Thomas in 1984 and finalist in Belgian national television’s Tenuto competition one year later.

During the 1980’s and 1990’s Guy Cuyvers wrote many arrangements for guitar and guitar duo. In 1996 Cadence, his first CD, was released. Highly acclaimed, the record contained several new arrangements of classical masterpieces, among them the first adaptation for classical guitar of Pachelbel’s Canon.

A year later Pablo’s Friends, a book with new compositions for classical guitar students was published. During the following years additional books and compositions were published by Metropolis Music Publishers.
